Arnel Pineda was born in Sampaloc, Manila. He is the eldest of the four offspring of his parents who were both tailors. After his mother's treatment and death from heart disease, Arnel underwent hopeless poverty when he was 12-year old, wandering around from place to place.
He is now 40 and has engaged in 25 years of singing with different local bands.
Neal Schon, the founder and lead guitarist of Journey, the American band very well-known for its power ballads and whose records have sold 75 million copies since 1973, desired a young blood and a new singer for Journey. Following the time when Schon saw the video on You Tube, he did not waste in hooking up with Arnel Pineda. The video is referring to the clip in which Arnel sang Journey's Faithfully with his band, The Zoo. The video was shot at Hard Rock Cafe in Makati by a friend from Olongapo City and later uploaded on You Tube for posterity.
Pineda traveled to San Francisco for a two-day test in an audition. Om the first day of February, he will travel again to the United States to begin practicing and recording as the new vocalist of Journey.
A new journey album is made known under preparation, to be produced by Kevin Shirley and to be released in July. Journey will be at the Festival de Vina del Mar in Chile on the twenty first day of February. Filipino congressmen must go to Chile to give support and moral booster to Arnel Pineda, a Filipino rocker and vocalist of Journey.
