Alfa Garcia, a Filipina, is set in making a splash in the music scene. A New York University graduate, the singer/songwriter has been writing her own songs since 1998 at the tender age of 12. After classical training in both piano and violin, she taught herself to play guitar using her grandfather’s old tablature book at the age of 13 and the rest as they say, is history. Her piano and violin lessons led to a lifelong love of classical music, so much so that she joined the prestigious Children's Orchestra Society at the start of middle school and continued playing in different ensembles with the organization for seven years. Alfa’s music itself can be described as having an old school Jewel vibe, with its catchy melodies and distinct sense of earnestness that is engrained in every song. A lot of her tracks turn out to be refreshingly upbeat, such as the catchy Wear Your Shoes which Alfa describes as a bit of an experiment out of the norm. Listening to Second Skin, it is obvious the Alfa's future apparently looks more confident rather than dismally depressing. And now the 23-year-old singer has played all over New York including the legendary CBGBs, Rockwood Music Hall and The Bitter End. Her unique voice brought earthy tunes to the West Coast as she played her shows in Settle and in Los Angeles. Alfa p0alyed an acoustic showcase last May 28-29 at Second Street Jazz and Blue Dahlia Cafe both at Los Angeles, CA.
