Filipinos are really music lovers by nature. This is manifested in the existence of different musical instruments in almost all communities in the country.
And with this CCP (Cultural Center of the Philippines) and The Guitar Friends, group of guitar aficionados of varying levels of expertise who share a common bond, their love for the guitar, are launching the First Philippine International Guitar Festival.
The festival will be on stage starting Thursday at the CCP, which will be directed by Maestro Jose H. Valdez who is ranked by the CCP Encyclopedia of Philippine Arts as one of the pioneers of classical guitar in the country.
The Festival will include different performances such as the renowned international artist Steve Lin, artistic/music director and conductor of The Children’s Orchestra Society Michael Dapap, Kasilag Guitar Quartet founding member Perfecto "Perf" de Castro, and respected guitarist Sixto Butch Roxas. Also performing are the Kasilag Guitar Trio, Tabs, UP Guitar Orchestra, Fundacion Centro Flamenco, and the winners of the Namcya 2009 Guitar Category competition.
In addition to the said performances, it will also highlight the concert performance of a Spanish guitar soloist Instituto Cervantes.
At some point of the festival, master classes and lectures will be offered with the following topics:
- Building a Performing Career
- Flamenco
- A Guitarist's Pain
- Jazz Improvisation
- Ensemble Playing
- Musicality, Intelligence and Technique.
Guitar makers and manufacturers are also part of the event through their booths in the place.
Everyone is invited to be part of this First Philippine International Guitar Festival. Let us all take pride of our own guitar makers and let us take pride of being a Filipino. [via mb.com.ph]
