Early last year, Francis M together with fellow pioneers Andrew E and Michael V converted their music to underground. With this conversion, Gloc-9, Francis' protege has released his fourth album, "Matrikula" under Sony Music. Gloc-9 type of music follows the '70s folk-rock themes popularized by Asin and Sampaguita. Gloc-9 had matched the lyrics of his songs with aching ballads and frenetic rockers. The songs were inspired by a people's troubadour. "Upuan" describes the phantasmagoria trip-hop which must have the Best Single and Best Video awards for this year.
Among the remake of Gloc-9's music are:
Urbandub's Gabby Alipe of Asin's "Balita" "Tinta" , learned from Francis M's goal in writing songs ("Pwedeng itim... asul... pula Ang mahalaga'y kung ano ang maiintindihan nila") A short phone conversation which ends with an comprehensive request for human kindness rapped around Sampaguita's "Tao". "Matrikula", one of the saddest records. It explains the question of how it is to be poor without an opportunity in your own country.
